Marty Jones (a five-time nominee to the Westword Music Showcase in Denver) is now stirring crowds with a new group, Marty Jones & the Great Unknowns.
Jones has assembled a stellar cast for the group, which is now playing shows around Denver and throughout Colorado. Ace guitarist Zach Boddicker is a member of Drag the River and leads his own group, 4H Royalty. Standup bassist Scott Johnson and drummer Clay Bielman are consumate pros and longtime members of The Beloved Invaders.
The band has just released a brand new five-song CD, Drink & Song, that is available for purchase at www.martyjones.net. This fresh batch of good-time anthems, irreverent stompers and cry-in-your-craft-beer numbers will please lovers of honest, heartfelt, high-energy American music.
Since 1995, Jones has been a cult favorite among Colorado music fiends who like their roots music delivered with rollicking energy, a grin, and a dash of humor.
“Life is awfully short,” Jones says. “What better way to celebrate it and forget your troubles than with a giddy set of barn-rocking music. Spreading joy around, that’s our mission.”
Jones’ All-American sound blends vintage country, bluegrass, rockabilly and roots rock into a fun-filled (and often beer-soaked) hybrid. It’s joyful red-white-and-blue music that hits home with young and old alike, perfect for festivals, theaters, juke joints and beer halls.
A native of Norfolk, Virginia, Jones released a pair of critically acclaimed full-length CDs in Colorado with his previous group, Marty Jones & the Pork Boilin’ Poor Boys. Honors for the discs include: Top10 US Country Record (from the Denver Post) and Top Local CD (from 5280 Magazine). The CDs received extensive airplay on independent, satellite and Internet stations across the United States.
