School of Rock Denver Presents: Women In Rock

The show is a tribute to Women in Rock.

From influential folk singers who spoke out for social change to
hard-hitting guitar rockers who broke down the barriers of gender,
sex, race, and religion, women have played an integral role in rock
music since it’s inception. Female icons likes Janis Joplin, Ann &
Nancy Wilson, and Grace Slick, used powerful vocals that few men could
match. Innovators like Patti Smith fused poetry and rock music. Joan
Jett found success first with the all-girl band The Runaways, and then
later as a solo artist.

Remarkable women such as these make up only a small portion of those
who have and continue to inspire new generations. Rock music, like
many historically male dominated areas, would not be what it is today
without the deep influence and legacy of strong women.
